Design philosophy: Eventually
almost all fliers need to interface their headsets with a radio and finish up
having to plug into an interface box of some sort. FLYCOM takes the view
that this box may as well contain everything you need and be as close to the
radio as possible so obviating the need for loads of wires, connections and
long patch leads. Since the box also contains the audio for the intercom as
well as the radio this leaves the headset ear defenders empty to do what
they were designed to do, that is, protect your hearing. EN 966 1996 Helmets for airborne sports (UL) makes reference that provision should be made for the addition of a communication system of some kind. Note, the standard makes no reference whatever to decibels, hearing protection, or noise levels; by far the biggest hazard you face when you go flying! |
